April is National Donate Life Month
April 9, 2024

Logan Regional Medical Center (LRMC) proudly announces its participation in National Donate Life Month this April, advocating for organ, eye, and tissue donation awareness. As part of the nationwide observance, LRMC will host a Donate Life Ceremony in collaboration with the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) on April 24th, 2024, at 11:30 am in the OB waiting area of the hospital.
National Donate Life Month serves as a poignant reminder of the life-saving impact of organ donation and encourages individuals to register as donors. CORE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting organ, tissue, and cornea donation, works tirelessly to facilitate organ procurement and transplantation, thereby saving and enhancing countless lives.
The Donate Life Ceremony at LRMC will feature guest speaker Steve Laster, a kidney recipient whose life was profoundly changed by the selfless act of organ donation. Lasiter will share his personal journey, highlighting the transformative power of donation and the hope it brings to those awaiting life-saving transplants.
In addition to Laster's keynote address, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about organ donation and register as donors through CORE's educational resources and outreach efforts. Refreshments will be provided, fostering a sense of community as participants come together to support this vital cause.
LRMC extends a heartfelt invitation to the community, hospital staff, and supporters of organ donation to join in the Donate Life Ceremony on April 24th. Together, we can honor donors, celebrate recipients, and inspire others to make a lifesaving difference through organ donation.
There is currently a great need for organ donors. More than 119,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant in the United States and nearly 500 of those are West Virginians waiting for a life-saving transplant. Thousands more are in need of tissue or cornea transplants and every 10 minutes someone new is added to the national organ transplant list.
