Logan Regional Medical Center Awarded Laboratory Accreditation from The Joint Commission

Logan Regional Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Laboratory Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

Logan Regional Medical Center underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review from January 23 – January 27. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Laboratory standards spanning several areas of three different testing locations. The areas inspected included Transfusion Services, Phlebotomy, Chemistry Department, Hematology/Coagulation Department, Microbiology Department, Histology/Pathology Department, and Point of Care areas. Environment of Care and Safety Requirements were also assessed during the onsite review.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

Medical Director, Fahad Bafakih, MD and Emily Brown, Laboratory Director ensures the laboratory is prepared for unexpected visits for accreditation. Policies and procedures are written according to The Joint Commission standards and are followed by the laboratory staff.
