September 26, 2022
Meet Krysta Kemp-Bowens, an Occupational Therapist at Logan Regional Medical Center.
A graduate of West Virginia University, Krysta returned to her hometown to serve the community she says made her who she is today. “I’ve always had the desire to help others,” she said. “Even in elementary school I knew I’d eventually work in the medical field.” Krysta decided she would work at LRMC, the hospital where she was born. She joined the Rehabilitation team in 2015.
With certification in LSVT BIG for Parkinson’s patients, and a new certification in lymphedema therapy, Krysta provides client-centered care to each patient. “When I treat patients with lymphedema, I enjoy educating them about how the lymphatic system works,” she said. “Part of my treatment includes manual drainage and applying compression garments. I love seeing them the next day with lessened edema and easier movement.”
Krysta draws inspiration for her daily therapy work with patients from her faith, and particularly from the Bible scripture 1 Peter 4:10, which states, - “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.” “This Bible verse always reminds me that the work I do for others is to glorify God,” Krysta said. “It motivates me to be a light for others in the type of work that I do.”
Krysta expects to earn additional certifications in hand therapy and neurodevelopmental treatment to better serve our community in the future. “It is so rewarding to see my patients making progress, feeling better and getting back to doing activities that are important to them," she said.
Krysta Kemp-Bowens is currently accepting new patients at Logan Regional Medical Center.
