Take Advantage of Lymphedema Therapy at Logan Regional Medical Center
September 26, 2022

Lymphedema occurs when the lymphatic system is compromised and cannot drain fluids properly, resulting in the swelling of soft tissues in the limbs. Its cause can be primary, when disease occurs in the lymphatic system, or secondary, resulting from other conditions or the removal of lymph nodes.
Lymphedema has no cure, but specialized treatment, including through Logan Regional Medical Center's Rehabilitation team, is available to help easy symptoms. Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) moves fluid away from the limbs, reducing swelling and the risk of infection, and improving mobility and the condition of the affected skin.
The LRMC ’s Rehabilitation team is proud to offer Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) with Occupational Therapist Krysta Kemp, MOT, OTR/L, CLT, and the only certified lymphedema therapist in the area.
Krysta explained that “CDT includes manual lymphatic drainage, the use of compression garments and bandaging, exercises, skin care, education and self-care management.”
She enjoys educating patients about caring for the lymphatic system, and seeing them the day after treatment with relieved edema and improved mobility.
“It is so rewarding to see my patients improving, feeling better and getting back to activities that are important to them,” she said.
The LRMC Rehabilitation team can begin treating your Lymphedema with a referral from your doctor.
